I've been watching in wonder and amazement at the level of cognitive dissonance on display among Barack Obama's remarkably resilient supporters. There's apparently no line Obama can cross or previous position on which he reverses himself that effects their unshakable faith in this agent of "change". His cave-in on FISA and its ramifications are neatly summed up by Arthur Silber here and most recently by Chris Floyd here.
What's remarkable about all of this is that the rhetoric of the Obamaniacs is virtually unchanged. No need to lose faith in the Hope Crusade for this minor deviation (in fact a brutal ass-fucking of the Fourth Amendment) is merely tactical you see, things will be put right once Obama is elected. Then the Democrats who've been working so tirelessly to reverse Team Bush's legacy since they gained the majority in November 2006 by counterintuitively supporting Bush's initiatives in Iraq and elsewhere, can go about the business of restoring our constitutional republic.
As far as Jesse Jackson's recent unguarded comments regarding Obama's nether regions at Fox studios are concerned, no one who understands the context of this issue (i.e Obama throwing black males under the bus for political expediency during his Father's Day address at the Apostolic Church of Christ in Chicago) should be surprised in the least at the reverend's anger. For some perspective on this "controversy" I highly recommend this recent essay by Kevin Grey Alexander.

Face it Coldie.
Those so-called progressives who support Obama are no more progressive than Jesse Helms. They are only concerned about keeping the "party line" no matter the subject.
The Obama "honeymoon" is over. He'll do whatever is necessary to get elected. He'll go back on his word, cowtow to the middle-of-the-roaders and listen to those Democratic leaders.
Just goes to prove what we've said for months. He is no more a true "progressive" than the man on the moon. His backstepping on a quick removal of U.S. troops is what angers me most.
"leftisthebest"
In truth Lefty he never really proposed removing our forces from Iraq. Those "combat troops" he talked about removing comprise a mere fraction of our forces there. To date there are approximately 160,000 US troops in Iraq, but only about 30,000 of them are actually combat troops. Of these combat troops Obama has no intention of sending them home, instead he plans to redeploy them in the region. Furthermore, he does not propose removing the estimated 100,000 mercenaries from the country or dismantling our massive military bases or Vatican-sized "embassy", all of which scream "permanent occupation". He's a total fraud and has been from the very beginning.
how do you remain a "forward" thinker while being the police? Are there more like you? I read your blog when I need relief from the ranting on the scc. You have opened my eyes to different perspective and I thank you for that.
I disagree on many levels regarding obama's position on immigration, isreal and the war.but look at the alternative?
Be safe in your travels ColdType!
"how do you remain a "forward" thinker while being the police?"
It isn't easy and takes conscious effort but it is possible to think beyond the propaganda no matter your profession. That's really all I try to do. One of the most essential tools you can employ in such an endeavor is to develop a heathy skepticism of the mainstream corporate media. This is the primary vehicle by which much of the public is lulled to sleep. Its primary objectives are to sell you crap and defend the status quo at any cost.
And yes, there are more like me--even on the police force--though they may express themselves a bit differently. I originally started this blog as not only an avenue of self-expression but as a portal to alternative viewpoints and narratives found nowhere else in the mainstream. This explains why my blog roll is so long. My meager contributions pale in comparison to those you will find there and I highly encourage you and others to explore these links when you visit. Granted, some on my blog roll may seem out of place (i.e Little Green Footballs, Daily Kos, Atrios, Winds of Change, etc) but these are merely points of reference to the center-right and neo-con right extreme that I maintain at the Lair to stay current with the latest ruling-class fulminations.
