The General was an interesting fellow. First educated as an officer in the Dutch army he allied himself with the Japanese in WWII and just days after their surrender turned against them and became a nationalist.
He blamed the Communist Party of Indonesia after a failed coup in 1965 which led to the murders of between 300,000 and one million persons, depending on whom you believe. The Indonesian Communist Party was the largest in the world at the time with some 2 million members.
It is suspected the CIA (and British) blamed the Communists whose involvement was minimal, at best. The CIA also furnished names to Suharto of "suspected" Communists. Guess what happened to them?
Aaaah yes, another piece of American (and British) history we never learned in school. Suharto makes McCarthy look like a saint.
If the American taxpayer had any clue as to what they've paid for and what's been done in their name...

Yes, I would be very pleased. The only good Communist is a dead one

Joe McCarthy is an American Hero of the highest order. He singlehandedly stopped the most aggregious Communist infiltration in the US. Along with Reagan, these are two of the greatest Cold War heroes

Dear Uncle Benito,
You obviously do not know your history of the U.S. Communist Party. The only reason it failed during the Cold War was because its top people continued to support Stalin. Those who did not were kicked out of the Party.
By the end of Stalin's regime the nationwide CPUSA membership was less than 3000, according to CPUSA officials. In fact it probably was not even a third of that. It never fully recovered, even in the 60's.
